Step aboard the legendary Outeniqua at the Knysna Waterfront and set sail on a beautiful 2.5-hour sunset cruise through the Knysna Estuary and towards the famous Knysna Heads. Weather and sea conditions permitting, the cruise may continue out through the Heads and onto the Indian Ocean, where you can enjoy the excitement of open-water sailing and the impressive skill of the crew.

Tour Description

Enjoy the fresh air, incredible Garden Route scenery, and the excitement of sailing as the crew takes you towards the open water, weather permitting. If sea conditions allow, the yacht may pass through the Heads and out onto the Indian Ocean. If not, the cruise will remain within the calm and scenic waters of the estuary.

As the sun begins to set, relax on deck and enjoy a delicious picnic-style sunset spread with savoury snacks, fresh fruit, cheeses, baguette and dips, paired with a complimentary glass of chilled South African Cap Classique MCC.

It’s the perfect mix of sailing, scenery, golden-hour views and laid-back Knysna charm.

Departure time

This cruise operates all year round, with daily departures. (Boarding time 15 minutes prior departure time).

The departure time varies according to the changing seasons, aligning with the actual sunset time.

Route

The cruise begins at the Knysna Waterfront and travels through the scenic Knysna Estuary towards the famous Knysna Heads.

Weather and sea conditions permitting, the yacht may pass through the Heads and continue onto the Indian Ocean for a true sailing experience along the Garden Route coastline. If conditions are not suitable for ocean sailing, the cruise will remain within the calm waters of the estuary.

Please note that going through the Knysna Heads is never guaranteed and is always at the skipper’s discretion.

Weather

Outeniqua cruises are ocean-going trips and are dependent on the weather and sea conditions on the day.

The skipper will make the final decision based on tide, wind direction, wind speed and sea swell. For safety and comfort, going out through the Knysna Heads is not guaranteed.

If ocean conditions are not suitable, the cruise may still continue within the protected waters of the Knysna Estuary.

What To Wear

Dress casually and comfortably.

There is a no-shoes policy on board, so guests will be asked to remove their shoes before boarding. During cooler months, we recommend bringing socks for extra comfort.
